<image:title>CASE STUDIES - Xenith - X1 Footbal Helmet</image:title>
<image:caption>State of the art football helmet technology designed to reduce concussive episodes. Xenith helmets have a leading technology to greatly reduce instances of concussive episodes. The inner bonnet is loaded with air cushion cells, which contain a constant air reservoir against the scalp with a controlled release of air between the helmet and outer shell. The chin straps on the X1 Football Helmet are connected to the "Fit Seeker" cable, which is woven throughout the flexible Shock Bonnet inside the helmet. A more intuitive, low cost and durable solution regarding the relationship between the chin cup, strap and cable needed to be investigated. Role: Lead Industrial Designer for Concept Ideation and Refinement phases Subsequent refinement was completed by Xenith team members. <image:caption>Canyoneering bag designed for efficient packing of rope incorporating buoyancy, drainability and highly durable materials/construction. Sterling makes the best rope in the climbing industry and wanted to ensure their presence was known in the rapidly growing Canyoneering market by offering a top of the line Canyoneering Bag to go with Sterling's top quality ropes and hardware. In order to ensure the design was adequate and the materials and construction would hold up, myself and another member of the R&D team headed to Zion National Park in January to test the bag with a group of seasoned Canyoneers. This trip provided the insights to produce a bag with the features and durability required. Role: Sole Designer and Manufacturing Liaison. <image:caption>The Breg T Scope Premier Post-Op knee brace provides protected, controlled range-of-motion for patients recovering from knee surgery or those who have knee injuries or instabilities. The original T Scope was losing market share due to competitors braces being more comfortable, intuitive and attractively designed. Our goal was to redesign the brace completely to ensure the end user felt more comfortable applying and wearing the T Scope than any other controlled range of motion post-op brace. Feature enhancements included: Elevated side rails to eliminate sill interference, automatic click to neutral capability, spring loaded handle that automatically stays out of the way and a cam that significantly improves modulation. Role: Lead Industrial Designer responsible for improving aesthetics, ergonomics and ease of use. <image:caption>Handheld unit used for positive material identification. Eclipse was challenged with developing an ergonomically optimized instrument for measuring and analyzing the metallic composition of target materials. Reconfiguration and integration of Bruker new x-ray technology into a sleeker, and intuitive package was a main objective. The Eclipse design team sought to improve the weight, size, ruggedness, maneuverability, and UI of the hand-held product that performs in a variety of locations. Role: Assisted concept and refinement phases. Provided 2-D and foam models to benefit DFM/Engineering CAD. <image:caption>Bench-top analyzer that reads patient’s PSA (prostate specific antigen) levels to alert and help prevent prostate cancer. Claros asked Eclipse to help them develop a whole-blood analyzer and disposable cassette for prostate specific antigen (PSA) that would be used in urology clinics. The analyzer would allow Urologists to obtain their patient’s PSA from a single drop of blood for less cost and without the nuisance or delay of using a diagnostic laboratory. <image:caption>PalPodzzz™ line of triple use; nightlight, flashlight and power-failure LED lights for children. Osram Sylvania approached Eclipse Product Development to help them launch their brand new line of LED products named PalPodzzz. An unremarkable set of prototypes from a far east manufacturer motivated Sylvania to seek a much more aesthetically appealing and ergonomic execution to the design of the first line of PalPodzzz; a Lady Bug and Rocket Ship. Success from the first round of PalPodzzz lead to Eclipse providing an extension line. including a soccer ball on grass and a bear and bee in a honey comb. Role: Responsible for product ID, product artwork, presentation models, Solidworks (CAD), material/color selection and design support for engineering refinement. <image:title>CASE STUDIES - Necky & Old Town - ACS 2.0 Seat System</image:title>
<image:caption>Complete re-design of the ACS kayak seating system for improved brand identity, intuitiveness and comfort. The ACS seating system for Old Town and Necky kayaks was producing negative reviews. Problems consisted of; a lack of intuitive instructions for cumbersome adjustments, a dense and uncomfortable pad, flimsy construction, heavy, expensive to manufacture and the seat forced the paddler to sit too high in the cockpit. The same pad was used in both Necky and Old Town which made the seat appear generic and watered down the brand identity of each boat. A complete re-design of both hard and soft-goods was necessary to ensure maximum comfort, intuitiveness, and brand identity. Role: Responsible for all Industrial Design work from ideation, prototyping and production CAD (Solidworks) phases. Sourced materials for soft good elements. <image:title>CASE STUDIES - Breg - Freestyle OA</image:title>
<image:caption>Wrap around, soft knee brace that provides offloading of the medial or lateral compartment for mild to moderate osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) patients are typically 55-80 years old. Most braces that treat OA on the market have mechanical looking rigid structures and are better utilized for more active OA patients. Since older patients sometimes have difficulty bending over and understanding proper application; an intuitive wrap around design was the focus. Because the brace may be worn for multiple hours each day, it must be breathable, easy to don and doff, stay on during activities and look attractive. Role: Design lead for full development; support through engineering.
